Thursday, December 24th, 2009

As human beings, all of us tend to panic at some time or the other in our lives. Nobody can safe vouch that he or she has never had any kind of panic attack symptom. Some of us overcome them with mental strength while others fall prey owing to weak nerves. The causes of panic and anxiety attacks are relative and vary from person to person. What is trivial for one person may be horrifying and create anxiety in another person. But ultimately, we can surmise that both emanate from one’s psychological orientation or disorientation.

What does one do when one is frequently suffering from anxiety disorder and panic attacks? Does one go in search of sedatives and tranquilizers or antidepressants to ward off the problem temporarily or look for more permanent solution? The latter step would be a better solution to cure anxiety and panic attacks that to go in search of relatively transient reliefs which could aggravate the situation in due course with physical and biological side effects.

The best solution in the circumstances for a person suffering from panic and anxiety attacks would be to accept the reality, come to terms with it and sit with the professional counselor and work out the modus operandi with a determination to get rid of it with slow and steady steps and not to give up mid way. It is not impossible if the victim makes up his or her mind. But the onus is on the sufferer entirely to get rid of the problem.

HOW TO COPE WITH THE PANIC ATTACKS?

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

Before answering to the above question straightaway, let us first understand what is actually meant by a panic attack. Some people are having always or most of the time faster heartbeat rate than that of a normal person. They have more anxiety than the normal levels and feel nervousness. At some point of time or ther other in life if someone has more anxiety levels, more heartbeat rate, more nervousness or more panicky then it is not a cause of worry. It may happen when one is to appear for an Examination, for a job interview or on going to date for the first time in life with his/her partner. But this must not be frequent. If this happens to be quite frequently, then it surely leads to panic attack. This is the difference. The former comes under the Anxiety attack and the lattter under Panic attack. Some people have profession such as Day traders in the Stock Market, Commodity Forward Trading, Big dealers in gold, silver and oil futures. These people are usually prone to such panic attacks and for them the best solution is that they should change over their profession, if possible. Some bad past experience or incident or accident which may have changed a person’s life totally is a cause of panic if the person concerned is unable to forget the said event. For them, the advice is that as the river never remembers its past and goes on moving towards the sea, they should forget whatever has happened in their lives. Feeling breathlessness, suffocation even in the open area like an Asthama patient is a sure sign of panic attack. Prespiration or sweating in the cold temperatures is a sign of higher level of anxiousness and panic. Trembling of hands while sipping a cup of tea or coffee, trembling of legs while standing in a group of people is a sign of utmost level of panic attack. Abdominal pain due to indigestation leading to vomitting and followed by pain in the chest is a sure cause of worry in such panic attacks but here some people take it to be the heart attack or heartache. Such persons should consuilt a good psychologist to solve their problems at the mental levels and a good therapist for a good massage regularly for their body to feel relaxed.
