“How to Stop a Panic Attack”

Monday, January 18th, 2010

If you are having trouble with panic or anxiety attacks, please read this article. I will outline how to prevent future panic attacks, the symptoms of panic attacks, and how to treat them when they occur. Millions of people have high anxiety and are experiencing paic attacks so don’t feel alone.
Panic attacks are frightening and often people take them as heart attacks, which they are not. The first symptom of a oncoming panic attack, is rapid heartbeat. You will feel hot, flushed, and have heightened body sensations. These attacks are often caused by fear or extreme anxiety. The second symptom is tense feelings and panic. People often try to fight their panic attacks instead of just letting the body sensations and heightened feeling play out. The Third symptom is sweaty palms, dizziness, nausea, restlessness, and racing thoughts. These symptoms are best if treated by not suppressing them but allowing them to develop. The last symptoms are fright, anxiety, and shaking.

To stop panic attacks, it’s best to go to your doctor and talk to him about medications that are compatible with you. Some medications include: Adderal, ridalin, and stratera. If you aren’t seeking medical help then the best solution for coping with your panic attacks is to just let the attacks happen. Don’t try to suppress the attack, in fact, embrace the heightened sensation and force it out. Once, you get the feeling you are about to have a panic attack let the anxiety or fear play out. Get all of your emotion out and exacerbate the powerful sensation. Panic attacks are tiring, so please try these solutions.

To prevent panic attacks the best things to practice are deep breathing, stretching and exercise, and gratitude. When you’re having a panic attack you will have spiraling, negative thoughts and will breath rapidly, often out of control. To combat this, practice deep breathing in through your nose, out through your mouth. Try to relax, think positive, and breath full when you fel you are about to elapse into negative thinking. To relieve stress and tension in your body it’s best to incorporate exercise or stretching into your weekly routine. Stretching helps one keep control of your body and have a relaxed, loose mindset. Stretching can also mitigate the intensity of a panic attack by 90%. Stretching also lets us bee in control of our breathing and can be a good thing to do when you feel an attack is about to happen. The third way to prevent panic attacks is to embrace life with a positive state of mind. Once you master this, you will notice that your panic attacks go away altogether. A good way to train this is to spend a few minutes every morning thinking about what your grateful for. You always have something to be thankful for and once you do this consistently you will start to think more positively. When you have more control over your thoughts, you can stop a panic attack from ever starting. Take all of these tips ad slowly incorporate some of these aspects into your life. They are essential to your mental state and stopping panic attacks from ever occurring again.

Overcoming anxiety disorder and panic attacks

Friday, January 15th, 2010

Panic attacks are a symptom of Panic Disorder, which is a form of anxiety disorder. It is distinct from other forms such as Generalized Anxiety Disorder. However, the people who experience them often have other anxiety disorders as well, and the experience of panic attacks may even lead to generalized anxiety that manifests in other ways. Therefore, the best treatment for panic attacks may not be very different from the treatment of other anxiety disorders.

A panic attack is a sudden, unexpected experience of strong fear that occurs when there’s no objective reason to be afraid. In addition to the sense of terror, people often feel heart palpitations, dizziness, shortness of breath or other physical symptoms. This sometimes leads patients having their first panic attack to believe that they are suffering from some other serious illness, such as a heart attack.

There are many effective treatments for anxiety disorders and panic attacks, and a health professional can help choose the one that is best for each patient. Cognitive-behavioral therapy has been shown to cure panic attacks in some patients. There are also those who benefit from medication. Additionally, support groups and stress relief techniques such as meditations can be helpful in the process of learning how to cope with panic attacks.
